If the link icon is red, it means your M5 is not properly connected to your station. Please follow the bellow steps to troubleshoot the issue:
Step 1: Frequency and LED Check
- Ensure the M5 Gateway's frequency matches your weather station. See documentation on "Change frequency" for guidance.
- Observe the LED on the weather station to ensure it flashes every 16 seconds (see "Reset Button and LED Indicator").
Step 2: Battery Check and Replacement
- If the LED is not flashing every 16 seconds, replace the batteries in the weather station. Confirm the batteries are correctly oriented and the polarity is correct.
Step 3: Troubleshoot Communication Issues
- If replacing the batteries does not resolve the issue, consider potential temporary loss of communication, which could be due to interference or location factors.
- Power down and then power up the M5 Gateway.
- Note: In cold weather environments, use lithium non-rechargeable batteries for optimal performance.
Step 4: Re-Establish Connection
- With the weather station and M5 Gateway approximately 3 meters (10 feet) apart, remove the batteries from the weather station, wait 10 seconds, then reinstall them.
- Verify that the M5 Gateway now displays all observations from the weather station.
Step 5: Optimise Placement
- Place the M5 Gateway at the desired location and ensure it continues to receive data.
- Avoid placing the power adapter or the M5 gateway near devices that generate electrical noise such as TVs, monitors, computers, or transmitting devices.
Step 6: Adjust Proximity and Positioning
- If issues persist, adjust the distance between the weather station and the M5 Gateway:
- Minimum distance: 1.5 meters (5 feet)
- Maximum distance: 50 meters (164 feet), depending on whether you are using the internal or external LoRa antenna.
- Ensure no metal barriers or obstacles interfere with the line of sight and communication.
Step 7: Use External LoRa Antenna
- Consider switching to the external LoRa antenna provided with the M5. Note that installing this antenna requires opening the M5 unit.
