A red GPS icon indicates that the device is unable to establish a stable connection with GPS satellites. Please follow the step-by-step troubleshooting guide below to resolve the issue:
-
External Antenna Connection:
- Ensure the external antenna is securely connected to the device. A loose connection may hinder GPS signal reception.
-
Clear Sky View:
- Verify that the external antenna is positioned with a clear view of the sky. Obstructions can significantly degrade signal quality.
-
Outdoor Testing with External Antenna:
- Take the device outside with the external antenna connected for at least 30 minutes. This allows the device to search for GPS signals without indoor interference. Check if the GPS icon turns green.
-
Internal Connection Check:
- If the problem persists, carefully disassemble the M5 stack to check if all internal wires and connectors are properly engaged. Incorrectly connected wires can disrupt the GPS functionality. The loop-wire-connector should not be inserted in the M5 gateway. If it is, please remove it, reboot the device and try again.
-
Switching to Internal GPS Antenna:
- If the steps above don’t fix the issue, Try switching to the internal GPS antenna by switching the GPS stack wire. Once switched, take the device outside for 15 minutes to test if the GPS icon turns green. This helps determine if the issue is with the external antenna.
-
External Antenna Verification:
- If the internal GPS antenna works correctly, reattempt using the device with the external antenna connected (you need to switch the small wire again) and positioned outside for another 15 minutes. This step is crucial to ascertain whether the external antenna is faulty.
